How Wide is Your River?

The Geological Sciences faculty at the University of North Carolina has released data showing the width of North American rivers. The river widths were calculated by processing Landsat satellite imagery of all observable rivers in North America.

The NARWidth data shows the width of rivers at approximately mean discharge. The river data is available to download in vector ESRI Shapefile and Comma Separated Values.

Mapbox has already created an interactive map using the data. North American River Widths allows you to explore the rivers of North America and observe their widths at mean discharge.
